  06/13/26 - When Sam showed up he did a fine job. Unfortunately, after he started mowing our lawn in late April or early May, there were quite a few weeks when something--weather, other lawns, mower problems--prevented him from staying on schedule. We didn't complain because it actually saved us a little money, and the lawn never get too long before he returned. However, last week was different. Sam didn't show up for more than 10 days. When he finally texted us, he said he'd arrive the next day. The next day came, but so did another text, telling us he'd arrive the following day. When Sam finally arrived, he mowed about 10-15% of our lawn, then disappeared for a while, leaving his mower. When I saw it stopped on our lawn I thought, "Ran out of gas," and let it pass. About 15 minutes after that I saw he'd sent us a text message. I was surprised to read that he was quitting and wouldn't mow our lawn anymore. I stepped outside to see if he was still in our driveway, to ask why he was quitting, but he and his truck and mower were gone. We have no idea what happened, or why he made the decision he did. I texted him asking for a chance to speak with him, but as of today, he hasn't replied. Ours is a landscaped yard, which he saw and toured before agreeing to take the job. It's possible that he found it more challenging than he expected, but to quit and leave without finishing the job, and to decline to provide an explanation, was very odd. This might not happen to anyone else, but it is something that happened. We agreed to hire Sam because he agreed to provide a service. He then quit without explanation. We're now left to find an alternative service provider a third of the way through the '26 mowing season. Not impossible, but not expected either.
