What makes one quote higher than another
- Yard size. The biggest driver. Most crews price by the hour, and a bigger yard is more hours.
- Leaf load. HomeGuide and HomeAdvisor both name tree count and leaf volume as cost drivers. More leaves, more crew hours. The calculator assumes a heavy load takes 1.5 times the work of a light one.
- Disposal. Hauling runs $5 to $10 a bag, per Angi, Fixr and HomeAdvisor. Mulching skips it.
- Minimums. Small yards hit the crew's minimum. Fixr lists $75, HomeAdvisor $75 to $100, LawnStarter $80.
- Extras. Gutter cleaning adds $100 to $250, per HomeGuide.
Cut the bill
Mulch them. Mow the leaves into dime-size pieces that drop between the grass blades. No bags, no disposal fee. How to mulch leaves into your lawn.
Use the city. Many towns pick up leaves at the curb, free or for a fee. Forbes Home puts that fee at up to $55. Check it against the crew's haul-away price.
Don't save it all for one big cleanup. GreenPal says several lighter passes usually cost less overall than one big end-of-season job.
Pricing leaf jobs as a lawn care business
- Price by the hour. Echo recommends hourly over flat rates and puts labor at $40 to $80 per person-hour.
- Charge for dumping. Echo lists $75 to $100 per dump run.
- Hold a minimum. GreenPal reports many pros enforce a two-hour minimum.
- Time your crews. GorillaDesk's pricing chart template lists 1.5 hours for a quarter acre. Your crew on your accounts is the only number that counts.
